Awesome August Screenings

British summer is going hard this year, so make the most of it while it lasts. Get up on a rooftop this August and catch our favourite films!

Incredibles 2

We’re pretty sure this needs 0 introduction. If you haven’t been literally counting down the days, then we have nothing to say to you. It may not be part of our Disney Weekenders – but that’s just because it deserves it’s own little spotlight. Can we get a “FINALLY” up in here?!

Best quote:

“Done properly, parenting is a heroic act… done properly.”

Babysit Jack-Jack on the 29th of August at Bussey Building.

American High School Week

For a whooole week we’ll be celebrating one of the best genres: American High School flicks. We’ve got Mean Girls, Clueless, Grease, The Breakfast Club, and 10 Things I Hate About You. If you’re not swooning yet, just remember that these were all filmed when Trump wasn’t president… yeah… #GoodTimes.

Catch our American High School week at Roof East:
15th August – Clueless
16th August – 10 Things I Hate About You
17th August – Mean Girls
18th August – Grease

Can’t make it to those classes but still want to celebrate? Catch Grease for it’s 40th anniversary on August 19th at Bussey Building

Pulp Fiction

Whip out your wallet and learn how to sew, we’re bringing you Tarantino mayhem this August. John Travolta. Samuel L. Jackson. A rooftop. Alcohol. The F word 265 times. It’s gonna be fab.

Best quote:

“That’s when you know you’ve found somebody really special. When you can just shut the f*ck up for a minute and comfortably share silence.”

Book tickets before you can say ‘Blueberry Pie’ for August 5th at Bussey Building and August 30th at Roof East.

Desiree Akhavan Presents…

As part of our Women in Film series, we’ve teamed up with the ah-maze-zing filmmaker/writer/actress/hero Desiree Akhavan to select some of her favourite female-driven films every Tuesday in August… but it doesn’t end there. The selection includes a preview of The Miseducation of Cameron Post, with Desiree Akhavan joining us for a Q+A. That’s right, ya heard. We’ll also be screening Death Becomes Her, Big, and A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night in the name of #WomenInFilm

Shimmy, shimmy, cocoa pop at Bussey Building:
Death Becomes Her – 7th August
The Miseducation of Cameron Post + Q&A – 14th August
Big – 21st August
A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night – 28th August

Girls Trip

Is this as funny as life gets? Probably. It’s the rollercoaster of a lifetime. Also, Queen Latifah (yaas QUEEN) is in it so we’re not really sure why you wouldn’t wanna see this… ? She’s literally everything. If you’re into comedies, we’ve got a new favourite for you. You’re welcome.

Best quote:

“I am strong. I am powerful. I am beautiful.

Take an unforgettable trip on the 1st of August at Roof East.

Heathers

We’re not gonna get into how effing excited we are (we’re pretty excited), but we ARE gonna get into how excited YOU should be. Heathers is back and better than ever with this 30th anniversary reissue and, hell yeah, that means Christian Slater’s face up on the big screen once again.

Best quote:

“Dear Diary, my teen-angst bullsh*t now has a body count.”

Accidentally murder someone on August 10th at Bussey Building.

Hugh Grant Weekender

Look. We’re not saying we cried when we found out that Hugh Grant won’t be making rom-coms anymore… but tissue sales may have gone up. We’re mourning the loss of a rom-com King with 90s bliss.

Catch Notting Hill on August 24th at Roof East and Four Weddings and a Funeral on August 25th at Roof East.

Patrick Swayze Weekender

On Patrick Swayze’s 66th birthday, we’re celebrating with a whole weekend of Patrick Swayze bliss. Not only have we got Dirty Dancing twerking on our screen, but we’ll also be bringing you Point Break so, like, surf’s up and stuff.

Go #CrazyforSwayze on the 17th of August at Bussey Building with Point Break and the 18th of August with Dirty Dancing at Bussey Building.

Yellow Submarine

With jokes so bad that they’re good, Yellow Submarine has hit 50 years old so we’re reliving that time when only The Beatles could save Pepperland from those mega nasty music-haters (*crowd boos*). Dress up in your best Beatles merch and get ready to sing along this August.

Best quote:

“Liverpool can be a lonely place on a Saturday night, and this is only Thursday morning.”

Get on a submarine on the 4th of August at Bussey Building.

Love Actually

Jingle bells, Batman smells… August is the new December. Selfridges will be opening the world’s earliest Christmas shop and we’ve decided that we can vibe with it. The world’s earliest Rooftop Film Club Christmas screening.

Best quote:

“He stood up and fought for his country. And what did I do? I made a papier maché lobster head.”

Get your Christmas on this August at Bussey Building on the 3rd.
